I bond composite-rate history
The composite rate is the actual earnings rate of an I bond — fixed rate plus annualized inflation. For a new bond it has ranged from 0.00% (during deflation) to a record 9.62% (May 2022 - October 2022), driven by the 2022 inflation spike. The current new-bond composite rate is 4.26% (May 2026 - October 2026). The table below shows the composite a brand-new bond earned in its first six months, with its fixed and inflation components. Every figure was recomputed from the Treasury formula and matches the official chart.
