I bond fixed-rate history
The I bond fixed rate is the part of the composite rate that stays constant for the life of the bond. It has ranged from 0.00% (set in 16 different periods, mostly 2008–2022) to a high of 3.60% (May 2000 - October 2000). The current fixed rate is 0.90% (May 2026 - October 2026). Because the fixed rate never changes once you buy, locking in a high fixed rate is the single biggest factor in an I bond’s long-term return.
